Consejería en Español disponible
Susan is a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois. She completed her M.A. in Counseling Psychology at Trinity International University and holds a B.A. in Bible & Theology from the European Bible Institute in France. She is a Verified EMDR therapist through the EMDR Global Network.
A Multicultural Lens
Born and raised in a Spanish-speaking country and having lived in several European contexts, Susan brings a deeply attuned multicultural perspective to her work. She understands the beauty of holding multiple cultural identities—and the unique challenges of not feeling as though you fully belong to just one. This lived experience equips her to walk with clients navigating identity, transition, and cross-cultural complexity.
Professional Experience
Susan has worked with a broad range of clients in community agency settings and has provided counseling for students at a Christian college. She has co-led bilingual moms’ groups addressing parenting, personal growth, depression, and anxiety. Alongside her husband, she has offered premarital counseling within their church and currently serves as part of an elder couple team—experiences that enrich her understanding of relationships, faith, and family dynamics.
Clinical Focus & Approach
Susan enjoys working with young adults, older adults, individuals, and couples. She is especially passionate about supporting those who have experienced developmental trauma, offering a therapeutic space where they can be seen, heard, and gently guided toward healing.
Her approach integrates faith, neuroscience, and whole-person care. She believes that meaningful transformation involves recognizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit and pursuing growth across all three.
Her areas of focus include:
Developmental and complex trauma
Anxiety and depression
Parenting and family dynamics
Multicultural identity and cross-cultural transitions
Spiritual integration and faith exploration
As a trained EMDR therapist, Susan uses evidence-informed tools to help clients process painful experiences, build resilience, and move toward restoration.
Life Beyond the Counseling Room
Susan enjoys spending time with her husband and their four children. Daily walks by the lake, time in nature, and reading—especially biographies and historical fiction—are rhythms that bring joy and renewal to her life.
